Day 1: Carentino
CARENTINO (-/L-D)
If you love nature, horses, good food and excellent wine, you simply must experience a horseback holiday in the Monferrato region. Piedmont’s wine culture is at the heart of the region’s identity. Its excellence in cultivation techniques, innovations in production, and the evolution of centuries-old craftsmanship and technologies, combined with the outstanding quality of its wines, make it a world-class reference. It was here, in 1865, that the first Italian sparkling wine was created by the Gancia Brothers.
The wine-growing landscapes of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato in Piedmont consist of five distinct wine-growing areas and a castle: La Langa del Barolo, the hills of Barbaresco, Nizza Monferrato and Barbera, Canelli and Asti Spumante, Monferrato degli Infernot, and the Castle of Grinzane Cavour.
The site includes rolling hills covered with vineyards as far as the eye can see, charming villages, old farmhouses and wineries, towers, and medieval castles that dominate the landscape. It is renowned for the harmony and balance between the aesthetic quality of the landscape and the diverse architectural and historical features of its wine production buildings, internationally recognized among the most important in the world.
We will depart from Carentino, a crossroads between the provinces of Asti and Alessandria. Over three days of trekking, cheerful barbecues, and new friendships, we will explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Meeting in the morning at the riding center located in Carentino. After assigning the horses, we’ll set off through the village, continuing toward Bergamasco, Castelnuovo Belbo, and finally to the town of Incisa Scapaccino, where we will stop for lunch.
Hearty barbecue lunch at Agriturismo Bigatti. After lunch, we return to the stables. Dinner at the agriturismo and overnight stay.
