Day 1: Los Barrios
ITALY/MALAGA or JEREZ/LOS BARRIOS (-/-/D)
For those who wish to discover the beauty of Andalusia on horseback, we have prepared a week-long itinerary that will allow you to explore the southernmost region of Spain and of all Europe.
Campo de Gibraltar is located in the southeast of the province of Cadiz and serves as a boundary between Europe and Africa, as well as a gateway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Its ideal geographical location, mild year-round climate, and proximity to the British colony of Gibraltar make it an attractive tourist destination.
Throughout the week, you will ride through two natural parks: Los Alcornocales Natural Park, home to a vast cork oak forest, and the Strait of Gibraltar Natural Park, where every year hundreds of millions of birds cross the strait during their migratory journey between Europe and Africa—making it one of the world’s most important birdwatching destinations.
On the non-riding day, you’ll visit Jerez de la Frontera, with the opportunity to explore the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art and enjoy a traditional lunch accompanied by a lively flamenco show.
You’ll ride magnificent Andalusian horses, a symbol of the region and known worldwide for their innate elegance. Already present in the pre-Roman era, these extraordinary horses were often used in war for their courage and loyalty.
Group transfer from Malaga or Jerez airport (by 6:00 p.m. – time to be confirmed based on all participants' arrival) to your hotel in Los Barrios. Welcome dinner and overnight at Hotel La Montera or Finca Las Majadillas.
Day 2: Los Barrios
LOS BARRIOS (B/L/D)
Today we ride for about 5 hours along roads built by Republican prisoners between 1931 and 1942, before the start of World War II. The route offers beautiful views over the Ojén Valley, where you’ll observe the sharp contrast between livestock pastures and lush cork forests. You’ll also enjoy seeing many species of birds resting in these valleys.
Dinner and overnight in Los Barrios.
Day 3: Tarifa
LOS BARRIOS/TARIFA (B/L/D)
Today we will cross mountains that were once inhabited by bandits who ambushed caravans coming from Gibraltar.
Dinner and overnight in Tarifa at Hotel La Torre (or similar).
Day 4: Tarifa
TARIFA (B/L/D)
Today we will explore this coastal area that was once inhabited by the Phoenicians and Romans, who took advantage of the site to develop trade in seafood products and establish a small colony that became significant by the 2nd century BC.
We’ll ride to Punta Paloma through a pine forest along the Atlantic coast, enjoying wonderful views of the African continent.
Return to Tarifa along the coast, mostly on sandy trails.
Dinner and overnight in Tarifa at Hotel La Torre (or similar).
Day 5: Tarifa
TARIFA (B/L/D)
Today we will not ride, but travel by vehicle to the beautiful city of Jerez.
We’ll begin with breakfast in a traditional roadside restaurant, followed by a visit to the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, famous for their show "How the Andalusian Horses Dance", a unique performance that showcases the work of the institution since its founding.
Lunch in a traditional tablao flamenco, where you’ll enjoy a flamenco show.
Return to Tarifa for dinner and overnight at Hotel La Torre (or similar).
Day 6: Algeciras
TARIFA/ALGECIRAS (B/L/D)
Today’s trail could be considered the southernmost route of the Iberian Peninsula. It runs parallel to the coast along an ancient livestock route, offering panoramic views of the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco, and the British colony of Gibraltar, with the Pillars of Hercules and Djebel Musa in view.
Djebel Musa was a mythological landmark in the Strait of Gibraltar—considered the end of the known world in Greek mythology, until the historian Herodotus mentioned Colomo Satos crossing it in the 7th century BC.
Arrival in the afternoon in Algeciras.
Check-in at Hotel Meson Sancho (or similar), dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Los Barrios
ALGECIRAS/LOS BARRIOS (B/L/D)
We’ll follow an ancient path known as "La Trocha", which for centuries was impossible to traverse by carriage.
This route was often targeted by pirates, while the inland alternative was also problematic.
Choosing this path could save a day of travel to Cadiz.
Today, it’s one of the most remote parts of Los Alcornocales Natural Park.
Enjoy some of Andalusia’s most wild and beautiful landscapes: shaded slopes, cliffs, crevices, and deep gorges crossed by streams, where all you hear is the murmuring of the water.
Return to Los Barrios in the afternoon, dinner and overnight at the hotel.
