Start your exploration with Wat Pho, built in the 16th century and situated in the historic Rattanakosin Island district, is directly across from the Grand Palace. It is home to several significant structures, including the oldest public education center in the country, a school for Thai medicine, the birthplace of Thai massage, the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, and the country's largest Reclining Buddha statue.
Continue to Royal Grand Palace, one of Thailand's most recognizable and historically significant landmarks. The Grand Palace was built in 1782, after King Rama I, the founder of the Chakri Dynasty, moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok.
The buildings, which were originally home to the monarchs of the early Chakri Dynasty, are now only used for exceptional ceremonial events. Over a hundred buildings on the stunning 94ha (233ac) grounds are adorned with intricate decorations, bright murals, and golden spires.
Wat Phra Kaew, often known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is among these, along with government offices, the Royal Residence, and the Throne Halls. The Emerald Buddha, a statue of the meditating Buddha crafted of jade or jasper instead of emerald, resides at this treasured location and is the most renowned Buddha image in Thailand.
Come to the Chinatown area, which is a portion of Old Bangkok that has been home to Chinese people since 1782. Many of these people worked as laborers on the construction of the new capital. Gain insight into the locals' way of life by touring the temple and market.
