Day 1: Sovana

SOVANA (-/-/D)
Horse trekking through the Sienese hills is a unique experience, capable of taking you back in time. The gentle ups and downs of the hills, among vineyards and cypresses, slowly unfold as the horse moves forward with a steady pace. The air smells of earth and history, and every path seems to guard an ancient secret. While crossing woods and clearings, hidden Etruscan necropolises are revealed — remains of a mysterious people who left behind unforgettable traces. The ancient rock-cut tombs tell forgotten stories, while the silence of nature enhances the sense of wonder. The bond with the horse intensifies the adventure, turning each moment into a journey between past and present. The sunset over the golden hills offers an unforgettable view, sealing an experience that remains etched in the soul.
Arrival in the afternoon on your own at the Sovana Resort (transfers available on request from Rome airport or Orvieto train station for an extra fee), a charming Etruscan town at 350 m altitude inhabited by only 300 people. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2:

SOVANA/PORCENO (B/L/D)
After breakfast, transfer to the riding center just 1,500 meters away. Horse assignment and departure toward the Castle of Proceno along trails with stunning views. Picnic stop along the way in Castell’Ottieri, a medieval village with a beautiful Romanesque church. In the afternoon, arrival in Proceno, in the Lazio region, where we will stay overnight and have dinner at the castle.

Day 3: Radicofani

PORCENO/RADICOFANI (B/L/D)
Our journey along the beautiful ridges of Siena takes us towards Radicofani, at nearly 1,000 meters altitude. After about 4 hours riding northward, we return to Tuscany. We will ride up and down gentle hills and cross small rivers. Picnic lunch with a view of Radicofani, which we’ll reach in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Radicofani

RADICOFANI (B/L/D)
Today is a shorter day on horseback. We depart at 10:00 a.m., cross through the town of Radicofani, and descend along the typical Sienese hills. Picnic lunch with a view of Val d’Orcia. In the afternoon, another hour in the saddle before returning to Radicofani. Free time to visit the town or take a dip in the pool. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5:

RADICOFANI/PORCENO (B/L/D)
Today we return to Proceno by a different route, catching glimpses of Celle sul Rigo, Castell’Azzara, and finally Proceno. We continue along the ancient Via Cassia, crossing the modern one (which connects Florence to Rome) near Centeno, where Galileo spent some time imprisoned during the malaria plague. Dinner and overnight stay at the castle.

Day 6: Sovana

PORCENO/SOVANA (B/L/D)
Departure toward S. Quirico passing through Prato Lungo, a small farmers’ village. Picnic lunch in Vitozza (an Etruscan necropolis near S. Quirico with over 200 caves to explore, ruins of a Romanesque church and an old fortress). We are now in the Archaeological Park “Città del Tufo.” We lead the horses on foot along tuff roads and then through forests until we reach Sorano, a magnificent example of tuff construction. We cross the Lente River, walking along a gorge with 10-meter-high walls. We then leave the horses and return by vehicle to Sovana for dinner and overnight stay.
